PNP should sever ties with Dayton Campbell
Dear Editor,
I saw a recent newspaper article in which Dr Dayton Campbell described himself as an electrifying speaker and defended his rhetoric on the political platform, which has from time to time generated controversy.
I think it is time Dr Campbell recognises that his utterances make him appear to be the most divisive element in the People’s National Party (PNP). He, in my opinion, is a clear and present threat to the party’s chances of regaining State power.
Dr Campbell’s latest outburst in which he name-dropped several media practitioners and a radio station and sought to align all of them with a political cause to which he is opposed may be his most egregious error yet.
He will quickly learn that a politician attacking a media entity and its former employees is a fool’s errand. He’s been too long on the political scene to not know not to engage in a war he simply cannot win.
PNP President Mark Golding’s comments last week in which he declared support for Dr Campbell are most unfortunate.
I’m convinced Dr Campbell will sink himself, Golding, the PNP, and their aspirations at the next general election.
It’s time for Golding to wise up and sever ties with Dr Campbell who seems to have a tendency to attract negative scrutiny which will have consequences.
