The Caribbean Music Awards debuted last Thursday at the historic Kings Theatre in Brooklyn, New York, with a full house coming out to see the Caribbean’s leading musical stars perform, be recognised and accept their awards in their respective categories.
The show was hosted by the legendary Haitian rapper Wyclef Jean of Fugees fame and saw performances from top Caribbean acts including Jean himself, Jada Kingdom, Dexta Daps, Skeng, Nailah Blackman, Ding Dong and Angela Hunte.
Several awards were also handed out on the night including Trinidadian soca legend Machel Montano being bestowed with a Lifetime Achievement Award; Beres Hammond was awarded an Elite Icon Award; Kompa Music Honoree award to the late Haitian artiste Mikaben and Trinidadian act Kes copping the People’s Choice Award.
Plus, Spice received the prestigious Philanthropy Award From Jamaican Consulate of Atlanta Dr Elaine Bryan, and Rock-star supermodels Naomi Campbell and Winnie Harlow put on a golden display at the Victoria’s Secret fashion show in Manhattan Center on Wednesday.
