Cornwall College still on top
MONTEGO BAY, St James – Cornwall College continued their stranglehold on the Jackson Shield pre-season rivalry against Munro College, winning their 13th consecutive hold on the title after a 7-3 aggregate win over two games played at Cornwall College last Saturday.
Cornwall College won both games, winning the match between the daCosta Cup teams 4-1 before holding off Munro College 3-2 in the game between the ‘old boys’.
The series between the two former schoolboy football champions started decades ago but the Montego Bay-based Cornwall College, who have hosted the past three games, have dominated recent stagings.
On Saturday, an own goal after Dane Buckley’s shot was deflected gave Cornwall College the lead before Matthew Wilson doubled the advantage early in the game. Goals from Alex Cox and Dante Escoffrey saw Cornwall College lead 4-0 at the half-time break. Cornwall College took their feet off the gas in the second half and Munro College pulled a goal back through Romario Green but that was as close as they got.
Munro College will open their daCosta Cup campaign next Tuesday at home against Maggotty High while Cornwall College will play away to Maldon High next Wednesday.
