DIPORT OF SPAIN, Trinidad (CMC) — Guyana Amazon Warriors opened their account in the Women’s Caribbean Premier League with a comfortable 21-run victory over Trinbago Knight Riders (TKR).

The visitors rattled up 132 all out in the final over after choosing to bat first at Queen’s Park Oval here Tuesday, before restricting TKR to 111 for one off their 20 overs.

Amazon Warriors had lost both their previous matches to Barbados Royals in the first leg of the tournament in Bridgetown last week.

New Zealander Sophie Devine top-scored with 48 from 39 deliveries in a Player-of-the-Match effort, providing the early momentum for Amazon Warriors – first in a 36-run, opening stand with countrywoman Suzie Bates (16) and then in a critical 56-run, second wicket partnership with captain Stafanie Taylor.

Devine counted four fours and a six in her knock while Taylor struck four fours in a measured 29-ball innings.

West Indies off-spinner Anisa Mohammed (4-28) and England Marie Kelly (4-30) finished with four wickets apiece.

In reply, former West Indies batter Deandra Dottin top-scored with a 19-ball 35 in her first outing in the tournament, but lacked support and TKR’s challenge fizzled out.

At one stage, they were 46 for one in the 10th over but with the required run rate rising, the innings collapsed underneath the pressure built up.

Entering at number five, Dottin counter-attacked superbly with four fours and two sixes but her demise in the 17th over with 35 runs required, erased any chance of a TKR victory.

Off-spinners Shreyanka Patil (2-15) and Karishma Ramharack (2-16), along with the new-ball pair of Devine (2-27) and Shabnim Ismail (2-29), all finished with two wickets each.
