#DerrickFostersCollette
Love blossomed into a heart-warming celebration as Derrick Foster, customer service manager at Total Energies, and Collette Bryan-Foster, the creative mind behind The Collette Collective’s Handmade Polymer Clay Earrings, united their lives on the enchanting date of December 7, 2019.
Their relationship, nurtured over the years, blossomed into a beautiful love story. Initially Facebook friends in 2011, Derrick and Collette’s connection evolved gradually. It was in 2014 Derrick mustered the courage to propose a date, sparking the beginning of their journey as a couple. After five years of dating, Derrick orchestrated an endearing surprise proposal in February 2019. Amid the strains of Anita Baker’s Just Because Derrick asked Collette to be his wife, marking the next chapter in their love story.
Their wedding day was flawlessly captured by the lens of Dean Bartley, who managed to encapsulate every heartfelt moment and emotion that painted the canvas of this love journey. With Archbishop Donald Reece officiating the ceremony, Derrick and Collette exchanged their vows in a sacred and touching manner within the hallowed walls of Sts Peter and Paul Church in St Andrew.
The reception (on the lawns of the church), steeped in a rustic theme, reflected the couple’s resourcefulness and love for all things DIY. Ann-Marie Weise also played a pivotal role in helping the couple achieve their dream decor. The venue was adorned with thoughtful elements that spoke volumes about their journey. The ingenious use of Red Stripe Beer bottles illuminated by delicate fairy lights, along with pallet boards showcasing cherished memories, added a personal touch to the ambience. Tree stumps scattered throughout the venue brought an earthy charm, perfectly complementing the rustic theme. The dominance of deep purple — the couple’s favourite colour — blended seamlessly with accents of gold and brown.
Catering was done by Patsy Lyn Caterers, treating the guests to a delightful culinary experience. And, in the absence of a wedding planner, the couple relied on the support of their loving family members to make their day memorable as Derrick’s parents baked a delightful fruit cake, a two-tiered Selena Wong design.
The bridal party added an extra layer of camaraderie and support as well. Collette’s best friend, Chris Ann Speid, stood as the maid of honor, accompanied by bridesmaids Sasha Ellis and Collena Doctor. Derrick’s sister, Johanne Foster, also joined the bridesmaids. On Derrick’s side, his best man Troy Windeth and groomsmen Matthew and John-Luke Foster, his brothers, stood in unity. Stephen Chambers, a close friend, completed the groomsmen line-up.
The wedding gown (made by Collette herself), a stunning embodiment of elegance, was a vision in ivory lace. The high neckline and off-shoulder cowl added a touch of contemporary sophistication to the timeless design. The detachable skirt with an open front, adorned with the same lace, lent an ethereal charm to her ensemble. Her bouquet combined purple roses with delicate baby’s breath, creating a captivating blend of elegance and simplicity. Derrick, dapper in a custom purple suit by Spencer’s Tailoring, radiated joy beside his groomsmen who wore taupe-coloured suits. The bridesmaids, each in their own gold and brown attire, added to the colourful tapestry of the day.
And what’s a wedding without back-to-back love songs? The couple’s choice of music added an extra layer of emotion to the ceremony and celebrations. Roberta Flack’s The First Time (Ever I Saw Your Face) played as Collette walked down the aisle, a moment that will forever be etched in both their hearts. Their introduction was accompanied by Natalie Cole’s This Will Be (An Everlasting Love), while their first dance as a married couple was to Kelly Clarkson’s Slow Dance.
Following their matrimonial celebration the lovebirds embarked on a dreamy European honeymoon that turned out to be a journey of discovery, romance, and unforgettable experiences. Their adventure began with a landing in the heart of France where they immersed themselves in the beauty and culture of the country. Next on their itinerary was a journey to the city of Bryan’s dreams — Barcelona, Spain. From Spain they made their way to the enchanting city of Venice, Italy. The grand finale of their honeymoon led them back to France, this time to the city of love itself, Paris.
As they returned home from their romantic escapade the Fosters carried with them not only the memories of their wedding day but also the echoes of laughter, the warmth of shared moments, and the promise of a future filled with love, adventure, and togetherness.
