Lascelle Simmonds is a true community hero
Dear Editor,
Kindly permit me space in Jamaica’s number one newspaper to salute Lascelle Simmonds, chairman of the Spalding District Association, for his outstanding contribution to the Spalding community and volunteerism.
Oftentimes individuals of modest means and little privilege get overlooked by the agents of the State charged with the responsibility to recognise individuals for their contribution towards community and volunteerism.
As a community activist myself, I am deeply impressed with the work and contribution that Simmonds has made to our community. He has made significant contribution to unearthing young talents to take part in the development of the community and his contribution to the upliftment of schools and ordinary people in our community is exemplary for a man of modest means and education.
I am recommending that the National Honours and Awards Committee as well as the offices of the prime minister and the governor general consider him for an award in the category of volunteerism and community service.
I want to personally use this medium, in my capacity as a member of the Spalding District Association, to raise a toast to Simmonds for his exemplary service to community development. Continue to give service above self “Papa Las”. The word is always love.
