‘Algo’ runs away with She’s A Maneater feature
Jockey Raddesh Roman recorded his 100th career win at the Caymanas Park when he booted home Runaway Algo to victory to capture the She’s A Maneater feature trophy on Saturday.
Going off at odds of 3-5 over the distance of 1,600m, Runaway Algo was kept off the early pace before being sent through by Roman, leaving the four-furlong marker as she went through to dismiss the field to win the event by eight lengths.
I Am Fred, with leading jockey Ryan Lewis in the saddle, and who was the joint 3-5 favourite, finished second, while his stablemate Outbidder with Jordan Barrett abroad ended third.
Roman told the Jamaica Observer that he was very excited about this milestone.
“I am feeling proud of myself because this took a lot of hard work and sacrifice from me,” he said. “It has just begun because I am just going to continue working hard and staying focus, and I know that once I do this, then a lot more winners will come in the future.”
Roman added that he was confident going into the race because his horse had beaten all others in the past.
“Coming into this race everybody was trying to beat me because I have beaten them already, but I was alway confident of victory,” said Roman.
Meanwhile, Premier Identity handed trainer Howard Jaghai his 100th career win. Ridden by jockey Tevin Foster, the four-year-old Premier Identity romped to an easy victory in the sixth race over the five-furlong straight course.
Foster, who has been in excellent form this season, rode three winners on the 10-race card. His other winners were Buckaluck in the third event and Milos in the ninth race.
Racing continues today with the O&S Tack Room Trophy feature, which is one of 10 on the programme.
