#WorldChamps2023: No Thompson-Herah for 4x100m final
Double Olympic champion Elaine Thompson-Herah has not been named in the women’s 4x100m team for Saturday’s final of the event at the World Athletics Championships in Budapest, Hungary.
Thompson-Herah, who finished fifth in the 100m and was a no-show for the 200m at the national trials last month, was listed to compete only in the sprint relay in Budapest.
Despite concerns surrounding her fitness coming into the championships, she ran a blistering split of 9.90 seconds on the second leg to help Jamaica advance to the final on Friday.
Jamaica won heat one in a season’s best of 41.70 seconds with the quartet of Briana Williams, Thompson-Herah, Shashalee Forbes and Shelly-Ann Fraser-Pryce.
However, Thompson-Herah and Williams will be replaced by Natasha Morrison and 200m champion Shericka Jackson.
The running order is expected to be Morrisson, Shelly-Ann Fraser Pryce, Shashalee Forbes and Jackson.
The women’s 4x100m final is scheduled for 2:50 pm Jamaica time.
Meanwhile, the men’s team is unchanged with Ackeem Blake, Oblique Seville, Ryiem Forde and Rohan Watson. The quartet ran 37.68 seconds in their heat, placing second to the USA.
The men’s 4x100m final is scheduled for 2:40 pm Jamaica time.
