#WorldChamps2023: Watson not rushing Paris
BUDAPEST, Hungary — As he continues to bask in the glow of his victory in Budapest, newly-crowned men’s 400m World Champion Antonio Watson is in no hurry when it comes to next year’s Olympic Games in Paris.
At a media reception held in his honour by his sponsors Adidas on Friday, Watson was asked what his plans were for Paris 2024 when he indicated, “Paris will take care of itself.” Watson added that he was looking to end his season as soon as he competes in the men’s 4x400m relays on Sunday’s final day of the championship.
Watson ran 44.22 seconds to win Jamaica’s first men’s gold medal in the 400m in 40 years — the first since Bertland Cameron won the title at the first World Championships in Helsinki, Finland in 1983.
The former Petersfield star said he was looking forward to going home “to country and to spend time with my family.”
Asked what food he was most looking forward to eating when he got home, without hesitation, Watson replied, “anything my grandmother cooks.”
