#WorldChamps2023: Tracey sets new PB to advance to 800m final, Goule-Toppin out
Jamaica’s Adelle Tracey on Friday set a new personal best 1:58.99 to punch her ticket to the final of the women’s 800m at the 2023 Budapest World Athletics Championships.
Tracey, who days ago set a new national record in the 1500m, finished fourth in semi-final three.
Kenya’s Mary Moraa won in a time of 1:58.48 while defending champion Athing Mu of America claimed the runner-up spot in 1:58.78. Uganda’s Halimah Nakaayi crossed the line in third in 1:58.89.
Goule-Toppin, who was the country’s standard bearer in the event for many global championships, finished third in semi-final two in a time of 2:00.78. Her time was not enough to advance to the next round.
Great Britain’s Keely Hodgkinson (1:58.48), Australia’s Abbey Caldwell (1:59.05) and Noélle Yarigo (1:59.43) round out the eight finalists.
The final of the women’s 800m is scheduled for Sunday at 1:45 pm Jamaica time.
