#WorldChamps2023: Jamaican women storm into 4x100m final
Jamaica’s women’s 4x100m relay team will seek redemption from last year’s silver medal after storming into Saturday’s final of the event at the 2023 Budapest World Athletics Championships.
The quartet of Briana Williams, Elaine Thompson-Herah, Shashalee Forbes and Shelly-Ann Fraser-Pryce ran a season’s best (SB) time of 41.70 seconds.
They crossed the line ahead of Great Britain and Northern Ireland (42.33/SB) while Switzerland rounded out the top three in a SB time of 42.64.
Defending champions, the United States won heat two in a SB of 41.49 seconds while Ivory Coast ran an area record of 41.90 for second. Italy produced a national record of 42.14 seconds for third.
The Netherlands (42.53) and Poland (42.65) have also advanced to the gold medal race.
The women’s 4x100m final is scheduled for 2:50 pm Jamaica time.
