What is your reaction to the 200m finals and preferred line-ups for the 4x100m relay finals?
Donald Smith, international athletics commentator
Absolutely no surprises in how the men’s and women’s 200m ended; both races went true to form. I think most people were interested in the times that would have won, especially with talks of world records going around. But, based on what we have seen in Budapest in terms of the conditions, it would have been tough to get a WR.
In terms of the 4x100m relays, all things considered, neither the personnel nor the order for the men’s event should change; and for the women, Forbes would exit and Jackson would enter with the following line-up: Briana to Shelly-Ann to Elaine to Shericka. Natasha Morrison misses out thanks to the lightning second leg by ETH [Elaine Thompson Herah] in the heats.
Trishana McGowan, broadcast journalist
Fantastic performance from Shericka! A win and championship record of 21.41 seconds adding to her silver from the 100m is an amazing achievement to her career.
The women’s quartet is much harder to select because of the talent but, here goes:
Natasha to Shericka to Shashalee to Shelly. I would love to have Elaine in the final but I think Shashalee ran a solid third leg in the heats.
For the men’s team I would keep the same team from the heats; Ackeem to Seville to Forde to Rohan.

The results in the men’s and women’s 200m were pretty much as expected; the only disappointment for me was Shericka Jackson not breaking the world record.
For the men’s 4x100m I would go with the same team and the same line-up; it is a little more difficult for the women as Shericka will have to come in for the finals. Based on splits I would move Forbes to the lead-off leg, leave Elaine on the second leg, plug Shericka in on the third leg and anchor with Shelly.

The 200m finals went to script: We saw wins for the overwhelming favourites and in Shericka Jackson’s championship record run of 21.41 seconds we saw a truly amazing performance. Noah Lyles was also impressive with 19.52 but yesterday’s final was another reminder of just how incredible Usain Bolt’s record of 19.19 seconds is.
The men’s 4x100m line-up should remain the same, barring any issues, and based on what they showed yesterday, the team should challenge for a medal. For the women’s 4x100m final we will obviously bring in Shericka Jackson. I think we will see Shashalee on the first leg, Elaine Thompson-Herah staying on the backstretch, Shericka running the curve and Shelly-Ann on anchor.
