Improved pass rate for English in City & Guilds exam; decline for Math
KINGSTON, Jamaica — Successful candidates from this year’s sitting of the City & Guilds Math and English Skills, will receive their digital badges from London on Monday, August 28. This after the Overseas Examination Commission reported 56 per cent and 79 per cent passes in Math and English, respectively, in relation to the June 2023 sitting.
According to statistics reaching OBSERVER ONLINE, 31,641 candidates representing 56,378 registrations for City & Guilds Math and English Skills sat the exams in June, comprising students from the Ministry of Education & Youth (Grade 11 and Sixth Form); HEART academies and private training providers.
The 2023 statistics show an eight per cent improvement in English Skills passes compared to the 2022 results while the Math statistics reflect a nine per cent decline in passes compared to last year.
City & Guilds International Limited has been the largest provider of vocational education across 80 countries for 142 years.
Locally, it has been a credible option to the Caribbean Secondary Education Certificate (CSEC), for students at grades 11, 12 and 13.
Statistics released by the Caribbean Examinations Council on Thursday show more students receiving passing grades in this year’s CSEC Mathematics and English language exams compared to 2022, with 43 per cent of those who sat the math exam receiving a passing grade while 78 per cent received a passing grade in English A.
