#WorldChamps2023: Ricketts, Williams book spots, Smith out of triple jump final
Jamaica’s Shanieka Ricketts and Kimberly Williams are through to Friday’s final of the women’s triple jump at the 2023 World Athletics Championships in Budapest, Hungary.
Two-time World Championships silver medallist Ricketts made it look easy after leaping to a season’s best (SB) jump of 14.67m in the first round to breeze over the automatic standard of 14.30m.
Kimberly Williams, who is a two-time Commonwealth Games champion, did just enough to advance, registering a mark of 14.30m (SB) in her first-round attempt.
Ackelia Smith, who finished 11th in the long jump final on Sunday, did not advance to the next round, having jumped 13.95m for an eighth-place finish in Group B.
The final of the women’s triple jump is scheduled for 12:35 pm Jamaica time.
