WorldChamps2023: Goule-Toppin, Tracey advance to 800m semis
Jamaica’s Natoya Goule-Toppin and Adelle Tracey kept their World Championships hopes alive as they advanced to the semi-finals of the women’s 800m at the National Athletics Centre in Budapest, Hungary on Wednesday.
Multiple national champion Goule-Toppin secured the second automatic spot in 1:59.54 behind defending champion Athing Mu of America, who won heat seven in 1:59.59. Switzerland’s Lore Hoffman rounded out the top three with a SB of 2:00.14.
Tracey, who broke the 1500m national record on Sunday, ran a perfectly measured race to finish second in a season’s best (SB) of 1:59.82 in heat four. Uganda’s Halimah Nakaayi won in 1:59.68 while France’s Rénelle Lomote finished third in 2:00.22 seconds.
The semi-final of the event is scheduled for Friday at 1:25 pm Jamaica time.
