Visa continues its support for women entrepreneurs with QuickCart grant
VISA has given Jamaica’s QuickCart US$5,000 (J$773,000).
QuickCart, a woman-owned small business (WSMB), is an e-commerce and delivery platform that allows customers to connect to restaurants and shops for quick delivery of food, groceries, and other goods in their area.
It received the grant after match 44 of the Fifa Women’s World Cup in Australia and New Zealand. This was Jamaica’s nil-all draw with Brazil in Group F which saw them secure a historic berth in the round of 16.
“Throughout the Fifa Women’s World Cup, Visa is delivering a win for women — on and off the pitch,” Visa said. “The grants are provided to help the women business owners thrive, with critical capital to grow and sustain their businesses.”
Visa says there is an undeniable link between sports and business success as its research has found that eight in 10, or 82 per cent of WSMB owners, agreed that participating in sports impacts a person’s success in business.
The survey also found that 81 per cent of WSMB owners agreed that overcoming adversity in sports prepares one to tackle the most difficult situations in business.
It was also found that 89 per cent of women surveyed agreed that children can develop skills vital to future professional success by participating in sports.
The programme stems from Visa’s multi-year commitment to supporting women entrepreneurs’ access to financial resources and inclusion in the global economy. It is the first-ever extension of the coveted Visa Player of the Match athlete award, and supports WSMBs with US$500,000 (over $77 million) in total grant funding across the 64 World Cup matches and potentially 32 qualifying countries.
Visa is a worldwide Fifa women’s football partner, and its investment in the women’s game has advocated for equity, inclusion, and creating meaningful connections with athletes, fans, and communities worldwide.
