#WorldChamps2023: Seville, Forde advance; Watson misses out on 100m final
Jamaica’s Oblique Seville and Ryiem Forde delivered outstanding performances to punch their tickets to Sunday’s final of the men’s 100m at the 2023 Budapest World Athletics Championships.
Seville displayed a masterclass of a race to hold off the fast-rising Letsile Tebogo of Botswana (9.98), and stifled Fred Kerley of America’s (10.02) hopes to defend his title. Seville ran a time of 9.90 seconds.
Forde was up against a stacked field with world leader Zharnel Hughes of Great Britain and former world champion Christian Coleman of America. But the 22-year-old held his composure to claim a third-place finish, punching his ticket to his first major 100m final.
Meanwhile, national champion Rohan Watson had to settle for sixth in semi-final one in a time of 10.07 seconds. His race was won by Noah Lyles of America in a season’s best of 9.87.
The Jamaicans will go up against Coleman, Lyles, Tebogo, Hughes, Japan’s Abdul Hakim Sani Brown, who ran a personal best of 9.97 and Kenya’s Ferdinand Omanyala (10.01).
The final of the men’s 100m is scheduled for 12:10 pm Jamaica time.
