#WorldChamps2023: Pryce, McLeod and Young through to 400m semis
Jamaica started day two of the 2023 Budapest World Athletics Championships on a high note as all three women advanced to Monday’s semi-final round of the 400m.
National champion and NCAA bronze medallist, Nickisha Pryce blazed out of lane nine to win heat four in 50.38. She was followed by Cuba’s Roxanna Gómez (50.86) and Gabby Scott of Puerto Rico in a season’s best of 51.07 seconds.
In heat one, Candice McLoed secured the third automatic qualifying spot, running 50.37 seconds in the process. Her race was won by Poland’s Natalia Kaczmarek (50.02) while second went to Cynthia Bolingo of Belgium (50.29).
Charokee Young had to settle for a fourth place finish in heat six, but her time of 51.24 was enough to gain a non-automatic qualifying spot.
The semi-finals of the women’s 400m are scheduled for 2:10 pm Jamaica time.
