#WorldChamps2023: Fraser-Pryce, Jackson lead Jamaicans into 100m semis
Jamaica’s Shelly-Ann Fraser-Pryce and Shericka Jackson will lead the Jamaican women into Monday’s semi-final round of the 100m at the Budapest World Athletics Championships.
Jackson, who is ranked number one in the world this year, having clocked 10.65 seconds, cruised to win heat four in 11.06. She finished ahead of veteran Michelle-Lee Ahye of Trinidad and Tobago, who ran a season’s best of 11.16 and Gina Luckenkemper of Germany (11.21).
Five-time world champion, Shelly-Ann Fraser-Pryce made it look easy as she won heat seven in 11.01 seconds. Switzerland’s Mujinga Kumbundji claimed second in 11.08 and New Zealand’s Zoe Hobbs claimed the third automatic spot of 11.14.
In heat five, Natasha Morrison finished second in 11.02 behind America’s Sha’carri Richardson (10.92). Zaynab Dosso of Italy rounded out the top three in 11.14, equalling the national record.
Shashalee Forbes booked her spot with a time of 11.12 to finish second behind Marie-JoséeTa Lou of the Ivory Coast (11.08) while Boglárka Tacácks of Hungary finished third in 11.18.
The semi-final round will take place at 1:35 pm Jamaica time.
