#WorldChamps2023: Broadbell crashes out; Parchment, Bennett advance in 110m hurdles
Jamaica’s Rasheed Broadbell, the fastest man this year in the 110m hurdles, crashed out of the event at the World Championships in Budapest, Hungary on Sunday.
Broadbell crashed to the floor while trying to clear the ninth hurdle in heat three.
His compatriots were more fortunate, however, as Hansle Parchment and Orlando Bennett progressed safely through to the semi-final round.
Reigning Olympic champion, Parchment had a rocky start but held his composure to win heat one of the event in 13.30 seconds. Spain’s Enrique Llopis (13.33), Sasha Zhoya of France (13.35) and Cordell Tinch of America (13.49) were the other qualifiers.
Orlando Bennett finished fifth in heat four in a time of 13.39, advancing as a non-automatic qualifier. His race was won by two-time world champion Grant Holloway of America (13.18).
The men’s 110m hurdles semi-final is slated for Monday at 1:05 pm Jamaica time.
