#WorldChamps2023: Jamaica’s Smith leaps into women’s long jump final
Jamaica’s Ackelia Smith advanced to the final of the women’s long jump after a third-round effort of 6.78m at the World Athletics Championships at the National Athletics Centre in Budapest, Hungary on Saturday.
Smith, who is the only woman to record a mark over seven metres this year, overcame two fouled attempts to advance with the fourth furthest jump.
Her compatriot and national champion Tissanna Hickling, who has a lifetime best of 6.85m, mustered up a mark of 6.29m (+0.9m/s) in her second attempt to finish 13th in Group A. She did not qualify for the final.
The final of the women’s long jump is slated for Sunday’s afternoon session at 9:55 am Jamaica time.
