#WorldChamps2023: Jamaica protest mixed 4x400m relay results
BUDAPEST, Hungary – The Jamaican team has officially protested the results for the Mixed 4x400m relays that started on the first morning of the 19th World Athletics Championships at the National Athletics Centre in Budapest, Hungary on Saturday.
The Jamaican team of Demish Gaye, Natoya Goule, Malik James King and Stacey Ann Williams were fifth in their semi-final heat in 3:14.05 seconds and were ninth overall, just missing qualification to the finals ste for the afternoon session.
The Jamaican team is appealing the results on Competition Rules 17.2.1 which speaks to obstruction.
Goule appeared to have been impeded at the cut over on the second leg when another runner ran directly across her, forcing her to slow down.
The rule in full states- 17.2.1 if the jostling or obstruction is considered unintentional or is caused otherwise than by an athlete, the Referee may, if they are of the opinion that an athlete (or their team) was seriously affected, in accordance with Rule 18.7 of the Competition Rules or Rule 8.4 of the Technical Rules, order that the race (for one, some or all of the athletes) be re-held or allow the affected athlete (or team) to compete in a subsequent round of the event.
