#WorldChamps2023: All three Jamaicans through to men’s 100m semis
All three Jamaican athletes who lined up for the heats of the men’s 100m advanced to Sunday’s semi-final round of the event at the 2023 Budapest World Athletics Championships.
In heat five, Oblique Seville held off defending champion Fred Kerley of America to blaze to a time of 9.86, equaling his personal best in the process. Kerley finished second in 9.99.
Ryiem Forde didn’t buckle to the pressure of lining up in heat one against the fastest man in the world this year, Zharnel Hughes of Great Britain.
The 21-year-old secured his spot to the next round after finishing second in 10.01, while Hughes won in 10.00.
National champion Rohan Watson placed second in heat six, finishing with a time of 10.11 seconds.
The semi-finals of the men’s 100m will take place at 9:35 am Jamaica time.
