Expect some ‘Magic’ in Arthur Jones Cup
The $1.25-million Arthur Jones Memorial Cup takes centre stage on tomorrow’s 10-race programme. The Overnight Allowance contest for three-year-olds and upwards over 6 furlongs (1,200m) has attracted a field of nine runners.
Below, the Jamaica Observer‘s The Supreme Racing Guide takes a closer look at the runners and their chances of winning.
1. ROJORN DI PILOT: (7 b h by Liquidity – I’m Magic) – Makes his seasonal after a 413-day rest. Rojorn Di Pilot last raced on July 2 of last year when he finished second by 2 ¼ lengths behind Lure of Lucy over 6 furlongs. Rojorn Di Pilot has been training fairly well for his first run of the season but is more than likely going to need the run to find himself.
2. TAURUS BOY (USA): (5 b h by Speightster – Mc Duffie) – Has no form to recommend. Note: Visor on/tongue-tie off.
3. I’VE GOT MAGIC (USA): (5 b h by Fast Anna – Lil Miss Richie) – Returns after a break of 203 days. I’ve Got Magic was a winner on January 28 when beating Duke and Lure of Lucy over one mile (1,600m) in the Alexander Hamilton Trophy, winning by 2 ½ lengths in a time of 1:42.0. The Philip Feanny trainee can also sprint with these, as evidenced by his St Catherine Cup win over this distance in a time of 1:12.3 on January 14. I’ve Got Magic takes a drop in class to compete and should secure his third trophy success on the trot.
4. FREEDOM STREET: (4 b g by Uncaptured – Nofashionsense) – Finished a disappointed seventh going 7 ½ furlongs (1,500m) on July 29. Freedom Street is better suited to this distance and as such a better effort is expected. Note: Tongue-tie on.
5. IS THAT A FACT (USA): (3 b c by Palace Malice – Valid Code) – Completed his second-consecutive win on July 22 when winning over 6 ½ furlongs (1,300m) in a time of 1:22.1. Is That A Fact races in Overnight Allowance company for the first time and does so in good form. Is That A Fact has shown tremendous improvement and should a decent race without winning.
6. RACE CAR (USA): (6 gr/rn h by Race Day – McDuffie) – Has only two runs this season and those and those efforts were off-the-board finishes. Race Car is expected to be left behind.
7. INSPIRE FORCE (USA): (3 ch c by Union Jackson – Exotic Design) – Finished a disappointed sixth as the favourite in a 5-furlong (1,000m) round event on August 7. Inspire Force should run an improved race without troubling the principals.
8. CURLIN’S AFFAIR (5 ch h by Perfect Curlin – Nuclear Affair) – Returned to form on August 7 when finishing second behind Generational travelling 5 furlongs round only to be disqualified and placed third. Curlin’s Affair is poised for another good showing among these.
9. EL PROFESOR: (8 b g by Casual Trick – The Principal) – Has race 10 times this season without any success. El Profesor can surprise rivals at any time but based on current form, he can be only taken on past trust.
