PNP condemns Gregory Park attack, urges JLP to refrain from politicising the tragedy
KINGSTON, Jamaica— The People’s National Party (PNP) has strongly condemned the recent gun and arson attack that has left a taxi operator dead and dozens of residents homeless in Gregory Park, St Catherine.
The PNP is also urging the leadership of the ruling Jamaica Labour Party to refrain from turning this “heart-wrenching incident into a political spectacle.”

The PNP has described the incident—which occurred Saturday morning— as a senseless act of violence, which the party said has caused immeasurable pain and suffering for the affected families.
The party said that the community must come together to support one another during this challenging time.
In a statement on Monday, caretaker for East Central St Catherine, Raymond Pryce, urged anyone with information about the attack to come forward and assist the authorities in their efforts to bring those responsible to justice.
He urged individuals to consider the impact of their silence on the children and families affected by this tragedy.
The PNP also expressed a firm commitment to supporting the affected families and the community.
“The PNP organisation within the constituency has always been dedicated to stabilising our communities and providing support where it is needed most,” Pryce affirmed. “We were planning a clean-up operation at the location to aid in the restoration process, but the authorities have informed us that ongoing investigations require that we hold off on any major disturbances.”
Pryce also stated that he contacted various organisations, including the Ministry of Labour and Social Security (MLSS) and Poor Relief, to initiate assistance programs for the victims. Moreover, he highlighted the PNP’s involvement in providing essential food items to those affected by this tragedy.
“Additionally, it has come to our attention that attempts are being made to exploit this tragic incident for political gain. We strongly condemn any effort to politicise this devastating event. This is a time for compassion, unity, and healing, not for political manoeuvring. The loss of life, displacement of families, and the destruction of homes are tragic circumstances that demand our collective empathy and support,” the PNP admonished.
“Lives have been shattered, homes have been reduced to ashes, and families are in turmoil. We must rise above partisan divides and allow the authorities to conduct their investigations without any hindrance,” Pryce said.
The PNP thanked the first responders, the Jamaica Constabulary Force, and the Jamaica Fire Brigade for their swift and brave actions in the face of danger.
“Our thoughts and prayers go out to the victims, their families, and the entire community affected by this devastating attack,” the party added.
