Time against Harbour View as they ready for Concacaf Club Championships kick-off
With just under two weeks to go before the start of this month’s Concacaf Club Championships, head coach of Harbour View Ludlow Bernard admits the team is behind in their preparation but adds he is confident they will put on a good showing in the tournament.
Harbour View, who have been drawn in Group B, are scheduled to face fellow Jamaican Premier League (JPL) side Dunbeholden in their opening match in the competition on August 2 at the National Stadium.
The group also includes Athletico Pantoja and Cibao, both from the Dominican Republic.
Bernard told the Jamaica Observer that he has not been able to stage a full training session with all his players because some of them are still on vacation while others recently returned from their offseason break.

“Well, I am not going to tell you that everything is going smoothly because we still have a problem, whereby players are still on holiday and they are slowly returning and so as a result of that our preparations are way behind,” said Bernard.
“But we are hoping to catch up for at least this first game and then let’s see what happens when we move forward in the competition,” he said.
Harbour View, who made it to the semi-finals of last season’s JPL, will be competing in the championships for the first time since 2014. In fact, Harbour View remain the only Jamaican club to have won the championships, having done so in 2006 and 2008.
Bernard added that Harbour View are happy to be competing in the competition this year because this is a huge opportunity for the club to showcase its talent as matches will be broadcast to broad audiences, in particular the Americas.
“It is very important because this is an opportunity for the club to re-established itself within the region, mainly in the Caribbean and Central and North America,” said Bernard.
“Back in the 2000s we were very prominent in the respective competitions, but then there was a fall off, so we are hoping that our venture into the competition this season will spark our return and to put Harbour View football club back on the international scene,” he said.
“It is a very good opportunity for the players to showcase themselves to scouts, coaches, and other clubs will have an opportunity to observe and identify talents. We are hoping that the players can really put a good showing in everything so that they can attract interest in overseas markets,” Bernard ended.
