Granville & Spot Valley into U20 semis
MONTEGO BAY, St James – Granville United and Spot Valley High completed the semi-finals of the St James Football Association Under-20 competition after scoring wins over Green Pond High and Cambridge United, respectively, on Tuesday.
Granville United beat Green Pond High 5-1 with all six goals coming in the second half at Green Pond while Spot Valley High won their first game of the round, upsetting Cambridge United 2-0 at Spot Valley.
The wins saw them join Cornwall College and Cambridge United in Friday’s semi-finals with Green Pond High missing out on a spot in the top four.
Cornwall College, who topped the points tables with eight points, will meet Spot Valley High who finished with five points after their first win of the round while Cambridge United, who were second with seven points, face Granville United who are on six points.
The winners of Friday’s games will meet in the final set for August 18.
Tiyane McIntosh scored a double for Granville United who finished with back-to-back wins as they scored nine goals in their last two games after only scoring once in their first two games.
McIntosh scored in the 47th and 72nd minutes, Ricardo Butt scored in the 55th minute while Demor Peterkin scored his third goal of the season in the 57th minute.
An own goal in the 66th minute made the score 5-0 before Junior Smart scored his second goal of the season for Green Pond in the 62nd minute.
At Spot Valley, Khalid Stephenson scored in the 11th minute to give Spot Valley the lead before Tyreek Kirlew doubled the advantage in the 79th minute.
