Four J’cans advance in Pan-Am U-20 100m
KINGSTON, Jamaica – All four Jamaicans advanced to Friday afternoon’s finals of the men’s and women’s 100m events after the preliminaries on the first session of the 21st Pan-American Under-20 Track and Field Championships in Mayaguez, Puerto Rico.
National Under-20 record holders Bouwahjgie Nkrumie and Alana Reid, as well as Jeevan Newby and Asharria Ulett, will contest the final set for the second session.
Nkrumie ran 10.60 seconds (-2.6m/s) to win his preliminary heat, second best behind American Tylet Azcano, who ran 10.58 seconds (-2.9m/s) to win the first heat.
Newby ran 10.75 seconds (-2.7m/s) to win the second heat and advanced automatically.
Reid clocked 11.96 seconds (-2.6m/s) to win her first-round race and had the third-best time, behind two Americans- Kaila Jackson- 11.47 seconds (-0.9m/s) and Camryn Dickson- 11.75 seconds (-0.9m/s).
Ulett advanced on time after she ran 12.14 seconds (0.9m/s) for fourth place in the second heat.
