WBA men’s quarter-finals this weekend
MONTEGO BAY, St James – The quarter-finalists in the Western Basketball Association Men’s Invitational League should be decided this weekend as the regular season draws to a close with the playing of several rescheduled games.
The quarter-finals should have started two weeks ago but were pushed back due to a number of factors which saw games being postponed and rescheduled.
Eight of the nine teams will advance to the next round of the competition which will be played on a knockout basis and the four winners will advance to the semi-finals which will be played on a best-of-three format.
Cricket Club Knights have completed their eight-game schedule and are on 14 points, two more than second-placed Catherine Hall All-Stars who have a game in hand.
Third-placed Muschett Falcons have also completed their schedule and are also on 12 points, one more than Granville Jaguars who are on a five-game winning run with two games to be played.
Boys Club Warriors are in fifth place on 10 points, also with two games in hand, followed by Sav-Elite Titans also on 10 points but with one game in hand; Browns Town Eagles are on eight points from seven games in seventh place with Knibb Thunder in the final quarter-final spot on six points from their eight games played.
On Saturday, Muschett Falcons scored a 13-point 63-50 win over Cricket Club Knights at the Montego Bay Cricket Club as three players registered double-doubles for the winners.
Muschett led from the start and were ahead 14-9 after the first quarter before Cricket Club rallied to lead 31-27 at the half-time break.
Muschett then reasserted themselves in the third quarter and were up by six points 43-37 going into the fourth quarter.
Lamon Thompson of Muschett led all scorers with 17 points and had 12 rebounds, Jermaine Allwood scored 13 points and had 10 rebounds with Faizon McDemott scoring 10 points and having 10 rebounds while Akile Guthrie scored 15 points.
Lemar Mitchell also scored 15 points to lead Cricket Club; Omroy Kerr scored 11 points while Romario Senior scored 10 points.
