Duppy know who to frighten
Dear Editor,
One has to lift the hat to the women of Jamaica, wrinkled and worn who lift baskets, sit in the sun to eke out a living. I know they’re a little too busy to script 1,000-page responses; their work is survival.
Seems they are the true unsung heroines.
The women on the ground do not operate with glass ceilings. A quick glance will show most are beyond any legal age of retirement. Hopefully one day our constitution will help their frail frames to have air-conditioned markets. So do not let any precedence prevent them in their enterprise.
One can imagine the ruckus if anyone presented any “vibes” to these women in our market places? It is a good thing there is the world of fiction and not the world of the factual streets. At best, any comment would be disregarded and “no tongue drawn”. Duppy know who to frighten.
No one is to be blamed really, but cases of horrendous murders die ironically a ‘natural’ death. Even the loss of the life of a sitting Member of Parliament, councillor or child is less than nine-day talk. A message is being sent when justice is delayed, as witnesses ‘disappear’ in various forms. Seems the duppies are working overtime.
It is heart-warming that we have grown up. While today apologies and condemnations pour in, place a retroactive injunction, sanction, on ‘pothole’ on any other similar utterances. Duppy know who to frighten
