Sign it, Sir Patrick!
Dear Editor,
I am in full support of the decision to increase the retirement age of the director of public prosecutions (DPP) and the auditor general (AG).
I believe it is only appropriate that further to amendments made to the Pensions Act, which extended the retirement age of other public officers to 65, similar treatment be given to the DPP and the AG.
DPP Paula Llewellyn and AG Pamela Munroe Ellis are among two of the country’s finest public servants. There is no reason to deny Jamaica the benefit of their continued service and experience.
Additionally, I have not heard one single argument which has come near to sounding convincing that the move to amend the constitution is ultra vires.
I was happy to see the Bill approved in both the Upper and Lower Houses of Parliament last week and believe that the quicker Sir Patrick Allen signs it into law, the better.
