A new PNP low
Dear Editor,
I was shocked to hear People’s National Party (PNP) Human Rights Commiss Chairman Isat Buchanan praising lyrics by his client, who is a murder convict. The lyrics were sexually explicit and seemed to have been used to insult Director of Public Prosecutions Paula Llewellyn.
PNP President Mark Golding should fire Buchanan. I hope the Disciplinary Committee of the General Legal Council takes action against him as well. As an attorney he should have known better.
The truth is Buchanan’s utterances are just the latest in a series of verbal missteps by the PNP. PNP General Secretary Dayton Campbell’s reference to his political opponents as “dregs” and PNP President Mark Golding’s reference to supporters of his opponents as “fools” are just two examples of how low the PNP has sunk.
However, the caustic remarks by the PNP human rights chair represent a new low for the party. Swift punitive action should be taken.
