A great start for Nathaniel Dawkins
IN July of 2022, at only four years old, Nathaniel Dawkins co-authored his first children’s book, Nathaniel’s 1st Day of School, with his mom Krysta Williams, which was released for worldwide distribution in audiobook, e-book, paperback and hardback on Amazon and several other electronic book stores like Barnes & Noble, Booktopia and Smashwords.
Nathaniel has also started his own business, and has been winning competitions.
On July 1 Nathaniel’s 1st Day of School received honorary recognition at the Kingdom Indie Author Awards, and was awarded third place in the competition’s children’s category.
Capturing the essence of some essential golden rules of life, friendship, and overcoming first-day jitters, Nathaniel’s 1st Day of School has instantly become a favourite among young readers and preschool and kindergarten teachers. Through vibrant illustrations and a delightful narrative, this enchanting story takes readers on a journey with Nathaniel as he experiences the excitement and nervousness of starting school.
Nathaniel and his mom, both dedicated authors with a passion for inspiring young minds, collaborated on this project to create a memorable and relatable story for children. His mom’s knack for storytelling pairs beautifully with Nathaniel’s unique perspective and first-hand experiences, making Nathaniel’s 1st Day of School truly one of a kind.
“Receiving third place in the Kingdom Indie Author Awards is a testament to the undeniable talent and dedication of both authors,” Williams said. “The awards ceremony celebrated the achievements of independent authors, recognising their exceptional contributions to the literary world.”
When asked about their success Williams expressed her gratitude, stating, “We are humbled and honoured to receive this recognition for Nathaniel’s 1st Day of School. Our goal with this book was to help children feel less anxious about starting school and to inspire them with a story that fosters courage and friendship. We hope that Nathaniel’s 1st Day of School continues to touch the hearts of young readers, instilling them with confidence and enthusiasm for their own first-day adventures.”
Added Nathaniel: “This is awesome! I’m glad that I could share my love for learning with other little girls and boys.”
Art & craft…Be your own boss
As a way of expressing himself Nathaniel also entered the 2023 Toyota Jamaica Dream Car Art competition. He incorporated his love for colours and shapes to create an abstract masterpiece that earned him third place for category one.
Having gained recognition for his innate artistic talent, Nathaniel decided that he wants to share his love and passion for art with others. His mom happily assisted with his vision of launching his very own, hand-made, natural seashell jewellery and art collection, ND Jewellery & Art (Instagram @n.d.jewelleryart).
“We can only expect even greater things from this child star in the future. Nathaniel would like to thank you for all your love and support. He will continue to do his best, allowing God to do the rest,” Williams said.
