Sunshine Girls make winning start at Netball World Cup
Jamaica’s Sunshine Girls made a winning start to their campaign at the Netball World Cup tournament in Cape Town, South Africa with an effortless 105-25 over minnows Sri Lanka on Friday.
The Sunshine Girls, who are ranked fourth in the world, outclassed the Sri Lankans who are rated 15 in the rankings. They dominated the first quarter with an impressive 26-5 at the end of the stanza.
The Jamaicans ran circles around their opponents in the second period of the match, as they outplayed the Sri Lankans in all departments increasing their lead to 52-11 by halftime and 75-18 at the end of the third quarter.
Captain Jhaniele Fowler, who only played in the second half of the match, led the way for the Sunshine Girls with 42 goals from 43 attempts.
The Sunshine Girls will next face Wales in their second match of the tournament on Saturday. The match will commence at 4:00 am Jamaica time.
