Campbell overall champion at MCOBA/Lindy Delapenha Golf Classic

RAYMOND Campbell walked away as overall champion at the sixth staging of the MCOBA/Lindy Delapenha Golf Classic which was recently held at Caymanas Golf Club in St Catherine.

Campbell tied with four other golfers on 37 points but was adjudged champion after having the best back nine overall. For his efforts Campbell won a weekend for two at Half Moon Hotel, a $20,000 gift voucher from MegaMart, and a gift basket from Jamaica Standard Products.

First place in the ladies’ category went to Judith Slater, the British High Commissioner to Jamaica, with 33 points. Slater won a weekend for two at Jamaica Inn and a Cari-Med gift basket. Jennifer Mendes with 31 points and Debbie Newnham with 26 points rounded out the top three in the ladies’ category.

Guyan Arscott won first Ppace in the Men’s Super Senior category with 34 points, after he had a better back nine than second-place Dale Wanliss, third-place Wayne Chai Chong, and fourth-place Major Desmond Brown, all of whom also had 34 points. Bert Tomlinson with 33 points was fifth, and sixth was Chris Dehring with 31 points who had a better back nine than seventh-place Steven Hill and eigth-place Radcliffe Knibbs.

Arscott won a weekend for two at Jewel Paradise Cove, a $20,000 gift voucher from MegaMart, and gift basket from Jamaica Standard Products.

Quinton Hue Song tied with Phillip Gooden on 37 points but had a better back nine to take the Men’s Senior category. Third place went to Sean Morrris who had 36 points, fourth place to Xavier Rose who had 32 points, and fifth went to Doug “Hollywood” Gore who had 28 points.

Hue Song won a weekend for two at Spanish Court Hotel and a gift basket from Jamaica Standard Products.

The Men’s category was won by Aaron Ghosh with 33 points, Delroy Johnson with 31 points was second, while Nohaud Azan with 30 points was third.

Ghosh won two day passes to Hedonism II and golf for two at Tryall Golf Club.

The Elias Azan Award for the top Munro old boy went to Sean Morris with 36 points. Morris received a trophy and a gift basket courtesy of Select Brands.

Tournament Manager Telroy Morgan was deeply grateful for the support from the sponsors, which contributed significantly to yet another successful staging.

“The staging of the MCOBA/Lindy Delapenha Golf Classic continues to be a resounding success, year on year. For this sixth staging we realised over 40 sponsors coming on board to support this worthy cause. Special thanks to main sponsor Keller Williams Jamaica, Fidelity Motors, National Rums (Monymusk), JMMB, SunCoast Beach Club, Spanish Court Hotel, Half Moon Hotel, Jewel Paradise Cove, Hedonism II, Wisynco and Kleen Water,” he said.

Over 90 golfers participated in the event this year.
