Jamaica needs more of DPP Llewellyn!
Dear Editor,
I read reports in the media a few days ago that Paula Llewellyn’s tenure as director of public prosecutions (DPP) is set to come to an end this year due to her approaching the end of the extension which was given after she reached the mandatory age of retirement.
However, I am appealing to the DPP to reconsider, if she intends to depart this year. I am also calling on the Government to strongly consider permitting another extension of her tenure, and I support calls in the public domain for another extension.
The fact is, since she became the first female to be appointed in the position of director of public prosecutions in Jamaica, Llewellyn has been a credit to the dispatch of justice and she has executed her duties with fairness, fierceness, and admirable flair.
The transparency with which the DPP has also treated rulings is also a welcome departure from the veil of secrecy which once attended upon the office over which she now presides.
I wish to hail the DPP and call for another extension of her tenure as the country’s prosecutor in chief. Jamaica needs more of Paula Llewellyn, King’s Council.
