Ode to Whitney
Dear Editors,
Whitney Houston continues to be the most amazing singer to listen to, given her dynamic and inspiring voice — a unique honey flow of a voice.
One of my favourites is I love the Lord. Gospel music is her forte and her message meets you at the point of need. “Long as I live and troubles rise, I’ll hasten to his throne.” God was not forgotten at any point of her career.
She knew to whom she should turn when she, “the stone that the builders rejected”, needed a friend or shelter. She sings, “I go to the rock.”
Houston took the notion of leaning on the Lord to higher levels when she sang I look to you: “As I lay me down…I’m lost without a cause after giving it my all.”
When one loses his or her soul that is devastating; however, when new life emerges, one overcomes, never “crumbling”, holding one’s head high.
Thanks, Whitney. We know forever the strength of the song and the reach to the Almighty.
