Taxi man accused of raping passenger offered $400,000 bail
KINGSTON, Jamaica – A taxi man accused of raping one of his passengers was offered $400,000 bail on Tuesday in the Kingston and St Andrew Parish Court.
Demar Henry, 37, was charged with rape, forcible abduction and assaulting a female.
The allegations are that the complainant had chartered Henry from Lawrence Tavern to Constant Spring Road, in St Andrew. However, while en route, the man allegedly stopped outside a club, held down the woman in his vehicle and raped her.
He reportedly used his hand to cover her mouth and slapped her face during the assault.
During his bail application Henry’s defence attorney Nicolette Hamilton said he has been in custody since June 10, “he has no previous conviction and will not interfere with the witness.”
As such he was offered bail with one to three sureties. Henry is also ordered to report to the nearest police station on Wednesdays and to surrender all travel documents with a stop order placed at all ports.
Henry is to return to court on September 29, when the medical report is expected to be on file.
