Police search for men after seizing cocaine worth millions of dollars
NASSAU, Bahamas (CMC) — Police say they are searching for two men who escaped after their plane laden with cocaine with a street value of US$10.4 million was forced to land at the airstrip on Mayaguana, Bahamas on Sunday.
Police said that 18 crocus sacks containing cocaine were discovered on the white Beechcraft.
The police said officials pursued the aircraft via helicopter and that the two individuals left the engine on and escaped into nearby bushes after landing at the airstrip on Mayaguana. The police said despite being in “hot pursuit” of the suspects, they managed to escape and remain at large.
Authorities said the cocaine seized weighed 520 kilos and that the operation involved officers of the United States Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA), the Bahamas Drug Enforcement Unit, the US Coast Guard, along with Royal Bahamas Police Force.
