#NationalTrials: Battle brewing for men’s 400m final
KINGSTON, Jamaica – There is a battle brewing over Sunday’s final of the men’s 400m at the National Senior and Junior Championships.
Sean Bailey, the fastest Jamaican man over the event this year, looked good in qualification as he was the only athlete to dip under 45 seconds to advance.
D’Andre Anderson of Clemson University (45.02), Zandrion Barnes of GC Foster College (45.15) and Titans Track Club’s Malik James-King (45.22/PB) are the other qualifiers from semi-final one.
The ever-improving Antonio Watson of Racers Track Club looked the most comfortable in qualifying after cruising to 45.00 to win semi-final two. He crossed the line ahead of Demish Gaye of Sprintec Track Club (45.38).
Defending champion Jevaughn Powell took semi-final three in 45.24, while former Jamaica College standout Deandre Watkin of Elite Performance finished second in 45.26.
The final is scheduled for 5:44 pm.
