MCOBA/Lindy Delapenha Golf Classic set for next week
One of the most highly-anticipated and major charity golf tournaments, the MCOBA/Lindy Delapenha Golf Classic, returns next weekend at what has now become its home at the Caymanas Golf & Country Club in St Catherine.
The tournament, put on by the Munro College Old Boys’ Association (MCOBA), is the school’s major fund-raising event. Tournament Manager Telroy Morgan explained how the funds raised are allocated.
“This annual event celebrates the life and legacy of one of Jamaica’s most prolific schoolboy and sportsman extraordinaire, Lindy Delapenha. It also affords us the opportunity to raise funds to support the educational, sports and infrastructural development and advancement of Munro College,” said Morgan.
The event will tee off at 8:00 am on Saturday, July 15 with a “ShotGun Start”, which means that all golfers will start at the time placed on all 18 tee-boxes across the golf course.
Many prizes, inclusive of weekends for two (2) at luxurious hotels on the north coast of the island, will be vied for in the following categories — Ladies, Men (up to 50), Men’s Senior (50–60) and Men’s Super Senior.
Speaking on behalf of title sponsor Keller Williams (KW) Realty Jamaica, Nicole Touzalin, operating principal, spoke of the alignment of values between her company and Munro College.
“We are honoured to be part of this tournament, as it aligns perfectly with our values and vision. At KW we recognise the importance of giving back and therefore we strive to align our values to positively impact the lives of others. By supporting events like this, we try to promote an active lifestyle, encourage friendly competition and create opportunities for networking and connection,” said Touzalin.
“Our sponsorship of this event is a testament to our commitment to Munro College on behalf of our founder, the late Rory Marsh and the Marsh family,” she added.
President of MCOBA Victor Tomlinson is expecting a full slate of the nation’s top golfers to participate again this year.
“We are anticipating the participation of over 80 of Jamaica’s top male and female amateur golfers for the event. I am happy to announce that one of the event highlights, luncheon and presentation ceremony after the competition, will return this year,” Tomlinson explained.
For the 2022 edition, the Overall Champion was Diane Hudson who was the first female winner. Unfortunately, Hudson will not be available to defend her title.
Entry fee for the event is $7,000 which includes lunch. Presentation of Awards will follow immediately after. Registration for the tournament will be done through Caymans Golf Club at 876-880-7022/876-815-9700 or e-mail https://play@caymanasgolf.com
