Patra led the pack 29 years ago
On the Billboard Reggae Albums chart dated July 9, 1994, Patra held down the #1 spot with her major label debut album Queen of the Pack.
The 13-track album would spend 29 weeks in that position.
It featured production by Clifton “Specialist” Dillon, Danny Browne, Tony “CD” Kelly, Salaam Remi, among others and was certified gold by the Recording Industry Association of America for sales exceeding 500,000 copies.
Sax legend Dean Fraser is listed among the musicians who worked on the project.

Queen of the Pack was released via Sony Entertainment on September 28, 1993. Among the tracks are Think (About it) featuring Lyn Collins, Sexual Feeling featuring R&B singer Christopher Williams, and Romantic Call featuring Yo-Yo.
The album featured the Billboard-charting hits Romantic Call (#55 on the Billboard Hot 100, #35 R&B, #9 on the Rap singles chart); Think (About It), which peaked at #89 on the R&B chart; along with Worker Man, which spent one week at #1 on the Billboard Dance Club Songs chart, #84 on the UK Singles chart, and #5 on the Rap Singles chart.
Other albums making the Billboard Reggae Albums chart 29 years ago this week were Kids from Foreign by Born Jamericans (#2), Promises and Lies by UB40 (#4), Bad Boys by Inner Circle (#5), Yaga Yaga by Terror Fabulous (#6), Voice of Jamaica by Buju Banton (#10), and No No No by Dawn Penn (#13).
Now, fast-forward to this week’s Billboard Reggae Albums chart, Bob Marley and the Wailers have now spent 181 non-consecutive weeks in the #1 spot with Legend.
Best of Shaggy: The Boombastic Collection by Shaggy remains in the #2 spot, while Dutty Classics Collection by Sean Paul is firm at #3.
Stick Figure occupies positions #4, #5, #6 with Wisdom, World on Fire, and Set in Stone.
Greatest Hits by UB40 is steady at #7, while No Love by Byron Messia is at #8.
Backyard Sessions: Malibu Edition by Iration is #9, and Burial Ground by Stick Figure re-enters at #10.
On the Billboard R&B/Hip-Hop Airplay chart, Lipstick Lover by Janelle Monae, which samples Mad Cobra’s Flex, is steady at #27, while Talibans by Byron Messia rises from #49 to #46.
On Hot R&B Songs, Lipstick Lover backtracks from #23 to #24, but it fares better on Adult R&B Airplay chart, moving up from #8 to #7.
Meanwhile, reggae artiste Anthony B continues to make gains on the Billboard Adult R&B Airplay chart with Wind Me Up. The song, which also features gospel artiste Dante Bowe, bullets from #29 to #22.
Driver by Romain Virgo has taken over the #1 spot on the South Florida Reggae chart.
To Sir With Love by Althea Hewitt (#22), Triumphant by Nadine Sutherland (#23), and Pray That Away by Richie Stephens, and Kukudoo (#25) are this week’s new entries.
Moving to the New York Reggae chart, Nubian Woman by Grammy-nominee Sister Carol moves into the #1 spot.
Call Him by gospel artiste Kevin Downswell and Bounty Killer enters at #25, while Here Comes the Bride by Carl Ivermore steps in at #28.
Brighter Day by Mackie Conscious featuring Luciano is a new entry at #29.
Over on the Rebel Vibez Top Ten Canadian Reggae chart, Once More by Golden Chyld remains in the #1 spot, while What a Joy by The Memberz featuring Exco Levi is #3.
Swept Away by Andre Duhaney moves into the #4 position, while Commentary by Razor B remains at #7.
