Settlement reached on collision
Dear Claudienne,
On July 30, 2022, I met in an accident while travelling on Waterloo Road in St Andrew towards Trafalgar Road. A motorist driving a Toyota Axio, who had not put on his filter light, turned from Trafalgar Road onto Old Hope Road at the same time that the traffic light gave me the green light signal to drive from Waterloo Road on to Trafalgar Road.
This resulted in a collision at the traffic light and significant damage to my vehicle. Both of the parties involved in the crash made a report at the Half-Way-Tree Police Station the following day, and while making my report, I was told that the driver of the Toyota Axio was adamant that he was in the right.
I then requested a police report in order to ascertain who was to be held liable. On September 29, 2022, I received the police report which identified the driver of the Toyota Axio as being at fault. His vehicle was insured with Advantage General Insurance Company and my vehicle was insured with ICWI through a broker.
When I contacted the broker on June 8, 2023, I was told that when ICWI reached out to Advantage General on May 30, 2023, they were advised that the settlement had not been looked at as yet.
To get further clarity on the matter, I then spoke to an agent in the claims department at ICWI. I was told that the insurance company submitted details of my claim to Advantage General on April 4, 2023. Since that time ICWI had contacted the company several times to find out when the claim would be settled.
I was told that on May 30, 2023 that when ICWI last followed up with Advantage General, they had still not prepared the settlement documents.
I would like to know what can be done to speed up the process at Advantage General, as it seems to be at a standstill. The excess, totalling $285,000, that I have paid has set me back greatly, financially.
