Lime Hall, Treasure Beach on verge
Lime Hall Academy of St Ann and Treasure Beach FC of St Elizabeth are on the verge of earning promotion to the Jamaica Premier League as they will take leads into today’s return-leg semi-finals of the Jamaica Football Federation Tier II competition against Racing United and Tru-Juice FC, respectively.
Both games are set to kick off at 3:30 pm.
Lime Hall Academy will carry a one-goal lead into their game at Drax Hall after scoring a shock 3-2 win over Racing United in the first leg, while Treasure Beach lead Tru-Juice FC 2-0 in their game to be played at the Bramwell Clarke Complex in Ewarton, St Catherine.
Both Racing United and Tru-Juice FC are from the parish of St Catherine.
It will not be a walk in the park for the leaders as Racing United, who topped the regular season points table and scored the most goals, are expected to attempt a comeback against Lime Hall Academy who they had beaten in the regular season.
Prior to their loss last Sunday, the St Catherine-based Racing United had lost just once in the season, and if they can get back on level terms early on Sunday, could get the win.
Lime Hall Academy will be at home at Drax Hall and will hope to give St Ann a second Premier League team for the first time in decades.
Raheem Edwards scored 24 goals for Racing United and he will be expected to lead them today along with Mikyle Williams and Shavaun Reid, who also combined for 13 goals.
Ronaldo Brown is Lime Hall Academy’s top scorer with five goals, and along with Damani Sewell, will hope to put Racing United on the back foot.
Both Treasure Beach FC and Tru-Juice will have additional motivation after both came very close last year.
Treasure Beach made it to the semi-finals but were beaten while Tru-Juice had missed out on the final four on goal-difference and both will be looking to go a step farther.
Treasure Beach will have a big psychological advantage after beating Tru-Juice on both occasions the clubs have met this season — once at home and the other in Bog Walk.
With a two-goal lead and the Premier League 90 minutes away, Treasure Beach could opt to be cautious, but will not want to give Damion Herrera, Tedj Byan and Colieke Richards too many chances.
Shanoy Smith and Ferron Messam have been consistent for Treasure Beach late in the season and they will be depended on to get the St Elizabeth team over the line.
