Lucea’s Seaview Drive to close for seven hours starting tonight
HANOVER, Jamaica — Starting with a seven-hour closure on Tuesday night, Seaview Drive, a heavily trafficked thoroughfare in Lucea, Hanover will be closed to motorists to facilitate the replacement of a compromised culvert.
Access will be curtailed between 11:00 pm Tuesday and 6:00 am on Wednesday.
The approximately $5-million project will then run for three weeks.
Work will include the construction of catch basins and headwalls and the reinstatement of the road using asphaltic concrete.
Wave action had been a contributing factor to the deterioration of the road and the National Works Agency (NWA) said the work that will be done will reduce wave action and protect the infrastructure.
NWA Community Relations Officer for the Western Region, Janel Ricketts explained the options available to motorists.
“During the period of closure, motorists travelling from the direction of Montego Bay towards Negril may travel via Riley, Glasgow and Green Island. Motorists travelling from the direction of Negril, towards Montego Bay, would do the reverse and travel via Green Island, Glasgow, and Riley,” Ricketts said in response to queries from OBSERVER ONLINE.
For some time now, the road has been a challenge for motorists and pedestrians alike causing severe traffic jams in the town.
