Lady Elite1 extend perfect start to basketball league
MONTEGO BAY, St James — Lady Elite1 extended their perfect winning start to four games while Men’s Invitational Leaders Montego Bay Cricket Club Knights won their fifth game as the Western Basketball Association season continued at the Montego Bay Cricket Club on Saturday.
Lady Elite1 scored a 45-26 win over Lady Thunder; Cricket Club got by Falmouth Saints 71-58; while Catherine Hall All-stars beat Brown’s Town Eagles 85-43.
Lady Elite1 lead the women’s league with eight points, one more than second-place Lady Warriors (7), followed by Lady Thunder (5) and Golden Ravens (4).
Cricket Club are ahead in the men’s league with 11 points from six games, four more points than second-place Catherine Hall All-stars who have played four games; Granville Jaguars are third, also with seven points; Falcons and Eagles are on four points; followed by Falmouth Saints, Boys’ Club Warriors and Knibb Thunder, all on three, and Sav Elite Titans on two points.
On Saturday, Lady Elite1 beat Lady Thunder by 19 points despite a game-high 23 points from Kaydeen Thompson who single-handedly kept her team in the game.
Loren HoSang scored 17 points for Lady Elite1, Dandreicka Whittingham scored 12 points, and Ahsley Amor scored 10 points and had nine rebounds.
Falmouth Saints were brought back to earth after their impressive opening win as Cricket Club Knights made up for a slow start when they trailed 14-17 following the first quarter.
They took over lead in the second quarter and were up by 10 points, 37-27, at half-time, increasing it to 60-41 at the end of the third quarter.
Player/coach Jhaun Bryan and Andre Hill both had double-doubles for Cricket Club; Bryan scored 14 points and had 11 rebounds while Hill also scored 14 points and had 10 rebounds. Rayon Gardner also scored 14 points and Lemar Mitchell scored 12.
Flawless Travers scored a game high 24 points for Falmouth, Aldane Anderson scored 14 points, Ricardo Brooks scored 12 points, and Huntley Duhaney had 13 rebounds.
Three players from Catherine Hall, led by Craig Dorman, had double-doubles in their 42-point win over Eagles.
Dorman scored a game-high 27 points and had 10 rebounds, Odane Whittaker scored 14 points and had 11 rebounds, and Robert Walker scored 13 points and had 17 rebounds while Mikhail Smith scored 17 points.
Rodane Whorms scored 21 points to lead Brown’s Town while Peter Chambers scored seven points and Alistaire Fungchung Fungchung scored six points.
