Friends of Falmouth makes $250,000 donation to ‘Pond School’
TRELAWNY, Jamaica— Friends of Falmouth on Tuesday, handed over a cheque valued at $250,000 to the Falmouth Infant School, commonly called ‘Pond School,’ as the New York-based non-profit organisation moves to foster a relationship with the early childhood institution.
Patrice Beharie, acting principal of the school, welcomed the forging of a new partnership with the organisation.
“We are appreciative of this new partnership that we are forging with Friends of Falmouth. I just want to say thank you. We are looking forward to working with the organisation,” Beharie said.
“It is always good to know that we have someone on board to lend support to the school. It is one of those infant schools that serves the entire community of Falmouth and its surroundings,” she added.
Beharie revealed that the money is going towards the provision of vouchers to assist school leavers with purchasing books and stationeries to enter primary school. The two valedictorians were given additional funding from the donation.
For 2023, Friends of Falmouth has adopted Falmouth Infant School as part of its portfolio of projects in the historic town.
“Many of us in the Trelawny Diaspora have passed through this basic school we affectionately call ‘Pond School.’ It has helped to mold us into who we are today, so this is our way of giving back,” said Michael A Wattkis, president of Friends of Falmouth.
The major focus of Friends of Falmouth is to champion the rich cultural heritage of the town and to advocate for its sustainable economic and social developments. One of the goals of Friends of Falmouth is to keep members and supporters in the Diaspora updated on the Trelawny capital and how the town is evolving as one of the fastest growing in Jamaica.
