Sagicor Life Jamaica preps parents at UHWI..
FOR the entire month of May, mothers at the University Hospital of the West Indies (UHWI) were treated to pop up baby showers courtesy of Sagicor Life Jamaica every Monday and Wednesday at the hospital’s maternity clinic. The initiative, dubbed ‘Welcome to the Family’, was created to celebrate Child Month, while also treating mothers.
Meila McKitty Plummer, Branch Manager – Corporate Circle branch, Sagicor Life, highlighted that engaging the mothers was not only about providing a space where they could unwind, but it was also about spreading the knowledge of financial wellness.
“With the theme for Child Month 2023 being ‘Children need our love and protection… Get involved’ we wanted to share with our mothers and the fathers present about ways to protect their children by introducing our Child Protector plan. This is a plan that provides critical illness coverage, hospitalisation benefit, investment and limited death benefits with a minimum sum insured of $1 million a maximum of $10 million,” she said.
The mothers, and in some cases fathers and grandparents that attended the baby showers, were treated to giveaways and prizes that included boxes of diapers, changing seats, toys, baby wipes and water bottles. They also had the opportunity to speak with a financial advisor about the best plan for their children.
Doreen Cushnie, Nursing Director – Obstetrics and Gynaecology Programme, UHWI, highlighted that having Sagicor Life at the clinic was welcomed.
“We were really eager and excited to have them share with the moms and dads who came in as the topics touched on were very important and the experience was great,” she expressed.
Mom Latiesha Smith, who participated in one of the pop up baby showers, also shared the same sentiments.
“Sagicor is the first company to do something like this so it is a very great initiative. Having a baby shower for the moms is a nice gesture and learning about the product offerings that we can take advantage of to protect our child was also a good touch,” shared Smith.
