Land issue on way to resolution
Dear Claudienne,
On December 30, 2014, the title for a property that my deceased husband owned in St Catherine was submitted to the Land Administration and Management Programme (LAMP) with the National Land Agency (NLA) to facilitate the removal of his name and for my name and the names of my five children to be put on the title. However, to date (November 30, 2022) nothing has been done by LAMP.
Your assistance to help my family move forward on this matter will be appreciated.
ID
Dear ID,
Tell Claudienne contacted LAMP and after you gave them permission to disclose details on the matter to the column, they sent you an email.
The LAMP email to you stated:
“The matter was initially submitted to the Stamp Office for the Transmission and Transfer to be processed. The Stamp Office requested information in relation to Grant of Administration as some of the documents stated that the deceased (your husband) died partially intestate. We have retrieved the documents and will be redrafting them to ensure that they are consistent with what is stated on the Grant of Administration.
Please indicate if the beneficiaries in the estate of LD are still alive, and if yes, kindly provide their names, addresses, TRNs and occupations. We will try to process the matter as quickly as possible as it is longstanding.”
After you gave LAMP the information they instructed you as follows:
“Kindly be informed that the subject applications are now being redrafted; however, the following are required in order to complete same:
1. State whether the name of ID should be added to the Title
2. Provide the Tax Registration Number (TRN) for ID
3. Indicate whether the Transferees should be held as Joint Tenants or Tenants in Common on Title
In addition to the above, please advise whether we should send the documents via email to you or if you would prefer to visit the office and collect same.”
The column notes that you requested LAMP to add your name and the names of your five children to the title as joint tenants and that you went to their office to collect the documents.
You sent the documents to your children in the United Kingdom, the United States and Canada and after they signed them you returned them to LAMP.
On March 30, 2023, LAMP told Tell Claudienne that the documents you returned to the agency would be stamped prior to being sent to the Titles Office for the title to be prepared.
Tell Claudienne notes that LAMP told you on Wednesday, June 21, 2023 that you will obtain the title before the end of June.
We wish you all the best.
