Dwayno pushes happy music
The musical landscape has been crowded with an influx of negativity, so dancehall artiste Dwayno decided to separate himself from the pack and create what he calls happy music.
The deejay, who is best known for the 2012 hit Don a Road, has been spreading his musical wings overseas, where he has his sights set on taking on the international market with positive and relatable music.
“I wanted to attract a different audience. There are lots of things that we can sing about other than violence, and that’s why I’m doing happy music. I recently released songs such as Gallis, featuring Khadan, and All The Way, featuring Chivea. What makes me unique is the fact that I sing in different languages, so that the people of different cultures can understand what I am saying,” Dwayno explained.
He has recorded songs in Spanish and Shona.
Shona is a Bantu language of the Shona people of Zimbabwe.
“Happy music is more acceptable, and it brings people together,” he said.
Dwayno, who is originally from Old Harbour in St Catherine, has for the past four years resided in Philadelphia, USA.
He has been performing in the US as well as in Europe and parts of the Caribbean spreading his brand of music.
“I want to continue to elevate myself in music while keeping the fans satisfied. I also want to build a solid foundation for my children, who are the biggest motivation for me,” said Dwayno.
He recently released the song Money Up with Bazzle Clocking. He has a collaboration with Shawn Storm to be released shortly.
“I want to have a lasting career and to help my fellow friends and peers who are also pursuing a music career,” he said.
